Privacy Policy
Last updated June 13, 2026
Thank you for using Gita Talk. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect your personal information when you use the Gita Talk mobile application (the "App"). By using the App, you agree to the practices described in this policy.
Gita Talk is a spiritual companion app grounded in the wisdom of the Bhagavad Gita. We take the privacy of your personal reflections, conversations, and spiritual journey seriously. This policy is written to be clear and honest about how your data is handled.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Information You Provide
When you create an account and use Gita Talk, we collect:
- Account information: Your name (or the name you choose to share) and your email address, collected through our authentication provider (Clerk) when you sign in with Apple or Google.
- Display name: The name you enter during onboarding, used to personalize your experience.
- Conversation content: The messages you send to Gita and the responses you receive. These are stored to provide conversation history and continuity across sessions.
- Onboarding preferences: Your selected response mode ("Sit with me," "Show me the way," or "A bit of both"), which personalizes how Gita responds to you.
- Journal entries (if applicable): If you use the private journal feature, your written entries are stored to enable AI-assisted reflections.
1.2 Information Collected Automatically
We may automatically collect certain technical information to operate and improve the App:
- Device information: Device type, operating system version, and app version.
- Usage data: Features used, session length, and general interaction patterns (not the content of your conversations).
- Push notification tokens: If you opt in to push notifications, we collect a device token to deliver notifications to your device.
- Crash and error reports: Technical logs to identify and fix issues with the App.
1.3 Information We Do NOT Collect
We do not collect:
- Your precise location.
- Contacts, photos, or other data from your device.
- Browsing history or data from other apps.
- Any biometric data.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide and operate the App, including delivering Gita's responses to your messages.
- Personalize your experience based on your name, response mode preference, and conversation history.
- Store and retrieve your conversation history so you can continue where you left off.
- Send you push notifications, if you have opted in, including daily reflection reminders.
- Identify and fix technical issues in the App.
- Comply with legal obligations.
3. How Your Conversations Are Processed
Gita Talk is powered by artificial intelligence. When you send a message to Gita, your message — along with relevant context from your conversation history and your response mode preference — is sent to Anthropic, PBC (the provider of the Claude AI model) to generate Gita's response.
Important disclosures about this process:
- Your words are sent to Anthropic's API solely to generate your response. They are not retained by Anthropic for training AI models under our usage agreement.
- Your conversations are not shared with any third party for advertising, marketing, or analytics purposes.
- Your conversations are private to your account. No other user can see your conversations.
- We do not use the content of your conversations to train our own AI models.
If you use a private journal feature within the App, your journal entries are processed in the same manner — sent to the AI model only to generate your personal reflection, then stored securely in your account.
4. Data Storage and Security
4.1 Where Your Data Is Stored
Your data is stored using Supabase, a cloud database provider. Account authentication is managed by Clerk. Data is stored on servers located in the United States.
4.2 How We Protect Your Data
We implement industry-standard technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including:
- Encryption of data in transit (TLS/HTTPS for all API communications).
- Encryption of data at rest in our database.
- Authentication required for all data access (no anonymous data access).

No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure. While we take data security seriously, we cannot guarantee absolute security.
4.3 Data Retention
We retain your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, your personal information, conversation history, and journal entries will be permanently deleted within 30 days, except where retention is required by law.
5. Your Rights and Choices
